This past April, our outreach was inspired by the way we celebrate Easter in our own homes – with love, togetherness, and a full course meal. We wanted to extend that same warmth to our less fortunate friends in the community, treating them not just to food, but to the joy of fellowship and the good news of how faithful God has been.
It was more than just a meal. It was a moment to reflect, to share stories, and to witness God’s presence even in the hardest of places.
One conversation in particular stood out to me. I met a young woman named Samantha who shared how, despite the challenges she and her mother face – having no shelter over their heads – continue to see God’s hand at work in their lives. She spoke of how they use their limited resources, including the bus fare, to travel south to attend church services. Sometimes they stay for all the services, even if it means waiting overnight at the church until the buses run again the next day.
To some that might seem like a waste of time or money, but to Samantha, it’s a small price to pay to be in God’s presence. Her story reminded me that our Heavenly Father sees the heart. What the world may see as foolish, He sees as faithfulness. His Word reminds us: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 (ESV)
Samantha’s testimony was deeply enouraging. Even with the little she has, she finds ways to give back o God. She understands something many of us forget – nothing we have is truly ours to begin with. Hearing how she and her mother are holding on to peace and joy, even in hardship, was a powerful reminder of God’s sustaining grace.
It was truly a blessing to celebrate Easter in this way – not just with food, but with faith, hope and love. What is done in secret, God sees and He will reward it.
For I know that my redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
